Last week, the Tar Heels won two tough games against the North Carolina State Wolfpack, and the Miami Hurricanes. In both of those games, Coby White and Luke Maye were instrumental in making sure that their current win streak stays intact, as they both had stellar back-to-back performances. In recognition of what they were able to do, the ACC named Maye as the ACC Player of the Week, and White as the ACC Freshman of the Week:

Luke Maye finished the game against NC State with 31 points and 12 rebounds in their 113-96 win. He followed that performance by scoring 20 points and pulling down six rebounds in the overtime thriller against Miami. This was Maye’s first time winning the POW award this season, and is hopefully a good sign that his play is trending upwards. Tonight’s game against Virginia will be a great test to see if he’s ready to step up against the toughest competition.
As for Coby White, this is the third time this season that he has earned Freshman Player of the Week honors. White finished the game against the Wolfpack with 21 points, two rebounds, and four assists. His biggest performance, however, was the unreal 33-point game he had against Miami. He also finished the game with three rebounds, six assists, two steals, and a block. White has stepped up in a major way for the Tar Heels, and one can only hope that he will become more and more dangerous as the team enters the tougher part of their schedule.
Congratulations to both of these players for their incredible performances last week. We will see if they’re able to keep the momentum going in just a few hours.
