It’s no surprise to anybody that both UNC’s men’s basketball and football teams use the biggest home basketball game of the year, that being Duke’s visit to town, as a big-time recruiting event. Football will have their biggest Junior Day of this semester, and we’ll give you more details on that a little bit closer to the date, and Roy Williams just got two big-time recruits to agree to come to campus over that weekend as well. In the meantime, though, football’s having another Junior Day this weekend, and that one we can tell you about:

Football:

• A lot of big-time football recruits, including several of UNC’s early 2020 commits, will be on campus for a mini-Junior Day this weekend that will include a big-time basketball matchup against Florida State. The names aren’t available to us, but based on the staff’s efforts so far, expect a healthy dose of North Carolina and Virginia’s top 25-ish players. Five-star linebacker Antoine Sampah from Virginia will be there, so that’s pretty cool.
• The Heels seem to have secured a preferred walk-on commitment in the 2019 class from Val Edwards, a receiver out of Ravenscroft High School in Raleigh:

Basketball:

• After several visits from Roy Williams, Precious Achiuwa has scheduled an official visit to UNC on the weekend of Senior Night against Duke. This will be preceded by an official visit to Kansas this Monday for their rivalry game against Kansas State. Those are the only two official visits he’s scheduled so far, though he’s unofficially visited Memphis, St. John’s, UConn, and Western Kentucky. According to his coach, he probably won’t make a commitment until April.
• Joining him on this official visit will be 2020 target Ziaire Williams, for whom this will be the second trip cross-country to see UNC this school year, with his senior year still to go. Suffice it to say his interest in UNC has been evident. We can only hope this one gets wrapped up quickly.
