North Carolina finished off signing day with a massive coup when they landed 4-star linebacker Eugene Asante out of Chantilly, Virginia. He made his announcement this evening via twitter. He is the 24th recruit to sign his LOI with the Heels for the 2019 class. For more info on this recruiting cycle, check out Chad’s signing day recap.

Asante received his first P5 scholarship offer from Virginia Tech on December 3rd. Just 11 days later, UNC extended an offer. Since then Asante has earned a fourth star according to 247 Sports organic rankings, and is firmly in their top 200 players in the country. UNC also was the final school to receive an official visit, as they made one final effort to pry the linebacker from his home state this past weekend.
That trip proved to be enough to change his mind, and adding a four-star linebacker this late in the recruiting cycle was a major coup for the Heels. The fact that it came at the expense of a program that has made a point of raiding North Carolina for talent the past few years should certainly make the fan base slightly giddy.
