NCAA Tournament: UNC vs Iona

The Tar Heels kick off their tournament with the Gaels in Columbus.

NCAA Basketball: Duke at North Carolina Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

The road to Minneapolis starts tonight in Columbus for UNC as they take on the Iona Gaels in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. While Iona comes in having won their last 10 straight games and the Tar Heels were knocked out in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament, Carolina is still one of the hottest teams in the nation coming into the tournament.

A number of high seeds have struggled early in the tournament. For UNC to not join them, they’ll need to run the game at their pace and shoot the three-ball better than they did in the semifinal game against Duke. Carolina has enough talent to overpower teams for sure, but you can’t take any game too lightly.

It should be a fun game. The demographic outside Nationwide Arena was very pro-Heels despite the distance from Chapel Hill, so hopefully the crowd is behind the good guys tonight.

As always we’ll be back after the game with a complete roundup of the happenings. Until then...

Go Heels!
