Tonight marks a milestone: It’s the final time that a UNC game will appear exclusively on Raycom. If you’re my age or younger, it’s definitely worth a pause to realize just how monumental the Raycom/Jefferson Pilot sports network was. In the days before cable, it’s how you watched your team play. Thanks to Carolina being a national team when the network was created, they were featured prominently on this syndicated network of stations that reached from Florida up to Maryland. In the old days of the eight- and nine- team ACC, every game felt like a big event.
As someone who is living in Boston, however, I have to say I’m happy for life to move on and for ESPN’s ACC Network to come. Fellow UNC fans who live here can attest to this, seeing as the local Raycom affiliate only showed the games that happen on the weekend. So, last week’s Syracuse game had to be watched on the ESPN app instead of live on TV. You don’t think it makes a difference until you text with friends who are watching live, or you follow along on social media, and you realize everyone is a full minute or two ahead of you.
Luckily, because tonight’s opponent is Boston College, this will not be a concern. If you live in Boston and won’t be joining your fellow Tar Heels at the Conte Forum...and there will be a lot of them there...you can tune in to NESN Plus and watch the game live.
For the rest of you who won’t be shipping up to...Chestnut Hill (because, see, Boston College isn’t actually IN Boston), here’s what you need to know to catch the game:
- Time: 8:00 PM Eastern
- Location: Conte Forum, Chestnut Hill, MA
- TV: Raycom (announcers Evan Lepler and Dan Bonner) - Find your local affiliate here
- Radio: Tar Heel Sports Network (Local affiliates are here), Sirius XM channel 207 (Internet 966)
- Streaming: You can watch via ACC Network Extra by ESPN, if you live in the Raycom footprint you may have to go to theacc.com to watch. You can steam the THSN thanks to TuneIn Radio.
- Line: UNC -11
