UNC vs Duke Game Thread

One last time.

NCAA Basketball: North Carolina at Duke Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports

Usually on a day such as this, this space would be reserved for trash talking the team from Durham. You all know that story well, so I don’t feel the need to repeat all of it here and now. I loved nothing more than beating them at Cameron a few weeks ago, and I’d love nothing more than to complete the regular season sweep of them tonight at the Dean Dome.

Instead of spending all of my words bashing Duke, I’d like to use this space to pay tribute to the three seniors playing their last home game at Carolina tonight. Luke Maye, Kenny Williams, and Cam Johnson have been brilliant ambassadors for the Tar Heel basketball program.

They have all given us some unforgettable moments. That’s even more impressive when you consider that Johnson has only been in a Carolina uniform for two years. It feels longer somehow.

Williams went from a guy who couldn’t make one to a guy who couldn’t miss, back to a guy who couldn’t make one, but all the while he showed his teammates what it means to be a complete player, not letting his offensive woes keep him from turning in stellar defensive performances.

Cam Johnson has shown he was anything but a Kevin Knox consolation prize. His final season as a Tar Heel has been one of the best shooting performances we’ve ever seen. He’s been a huge factor in the success UNC has found this season.

Luke Maye. Kentucky. Onions. That is all.

It’s so hard to say goodbye to the senior classes we’ve grown to love each and every year. They use their time in Chapel Hill to really take hold of our hearts and they hang around long enough to be special. Some schools don’t get to do that with players as good as Luke Maye or Cam Johnson or Kenny Williams or all the others before them. We should consider ourselves lucky that UNC is a place that people want to come to, and sometimes more importantly, a place players want to stay.

Thank you Luke, Kenny, and Cam. You guys are the perfect examples of what it means to be a Tar Heel.

That being said, we’ll be back after the game with a complete roundup of the happenings. Until then...

Go Heels! GTHD.
