UNC recruiting target Cole Anthony named co-MVP of Jordan Brand Classic

It’s his second MVP award of the high-school all-star season

Last month, Cole Anthony was named MVP of the McDonald’s All-American game. He followed that up with co-MVP honors in the Jordan Brand Classic on Saturday night. Though Team Black (Anthony’s team) ultimately fell 132-125 to Team White, the guard stood out as the best player on the court, which was an impressive feat given the talent on the floor.

Sure, we’re a little biased here, but 25 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists is about as well-rounded a performance as one can expect in an all-star setting. James Wiseman was the other MVP, leading Team White to victory with 21 points and 6 rebounds. The Jordan Brand Classic always names one MVP from each team, which is a method, I guess.

UNC commit Armando Bacot also participated, finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds. He and Anthony linked up on a few pick-n-rolls. Anthony isn’t officially a Tar Heel (fingers crossed/knock on wood/pray to the heavens), but it’s hard not to get excited about the possibilities for next year after watching the two close friends on the court.

The last player to win MVP awards of the McDonald’s All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic was UNC’s Nassir Little. So, that has to be a sign, right?

Anthony will announce his college destination this Tuesday morning on ESPN’s morning show “Get Up.”
