UNC Football: Two Tar Heels named to award watch lists

Carl Tucker and Michael Carter were named to preseason watch lists this week.

This past week, two North Carolina Tar Heels were named to national award watch lists.

On Thursday, senior tight end Carl Tucker was named to the John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List. The award is given to the top collegiate tight end. This is the second straight year Tucker was named to the watch list. Tucker pulled in 16 receptions last year, good for 265 yards and two touchdowns.

The award is named for John Mackey, a draftee out of a Syracuse and a NFL Hall of Famer, and will be presented to nation’s top tight end on December 12, 2019 at the College Football Awards.

On Wednesday, junior running back Michael Carter was named to the Doak Walker Award Preseason Watch List. The award is given to the top collegiate running back. This is also Carter’s second straight year named to this preseason list. Last year on the ground, Carter had 597 yards and two touchdowns on 84 rushing attempts. He caught 25 passes for 135 yards and one touchdown.

The award is named for Doak Walker, a NFL and College Football Hall of Famer, and will be presented to nation’s top running back on December 12, 2019 at the College Football Awards.
