As many fans that follow recruiting know by now, a number of the 2020 basketball prospects have released a number of their top school lists recently. The Tar Heels have shown up on a fair amount of them, and given how many players are on their recruiting board, it was inevitable that they would continue to end up on players’ final lists. Well, we now have confirmation that another top recruit plans on keeping Roy Williams and his staff involved in his recruiting process.
Tonight, five-star forward Ziaire Williams announced on Twitter his top seven list.
Right off the bat, the most interesting thing about Williams’ list is that UNC and Duke are the two lone east coast teams to join the likes of Arizona, USC, Stanford, Oregon, and UCLA. Given that he is a California resident, it is definitely promising that UNC remains on this list, and they are considered one of the favorites to land the 7th best prospect in the country. The 247 Sports’ Crystal Ball gives both UNC and Stanford equal odds of landing Williams at 43% with Duke trailing behind at 14%.
Williams joins Hunter Dickinson, Donovan “Puff” Johnson, Caleb Love, Isaiah Todd, and Greg Brown as 2020 prospects that have included the Tar Heels on their final lists. It’s a strong sign that Roy Williams and his staff have done some great work on the recruiting trail to this point, and hopefully they can continue to build from here and land some commits to join the rising 2020 commit Day’Ron Sharpe.
