Tar Heel football is back!

NCAA Football: Western Carolina at North Carolina Nell Redmond-USA TODAY Sports

It’s been a long two years. For even the most die-hard UNC fan, getting through football season the last two years has been difficult. The games were deflating, frustrating, boring, and maddening, if we’re being completely honest.

Since Mack Brown has returned to Chapel Hill, it has felt a bit like a new dawn. There is hope surrounding the UNC program once again. We’ve waited a long time to see if that optimism can translate to on-the-field results, and today will be the first step in getting our answer.

Carolina has been putrid in season openers against Power Five opponents. Having Mack Brown and his squad emerge from Bank of America stadium with a win would be huge. Standing in their way is South Carolina, an SEC team with plenty to prove.

There’s a new coach, a new offensive scheme, a new quarterback. It’s a new era for the boys in Carolina blue, and all that’s left is to see if there is enough there to bring interest back after two brutal seasons of few wins and little hope. Here’s to the turnaround starting today.

As always, we’ll be back after the game with a complete roundup of the happenings. Until then...

Go Heels!
