Roy Williams has been hard at work on the recruiting trail, and now we know that he has expanded his focus into the 2022 class. Day’Ron Sharpe announced via Snapchat Stories that his teammate and five-star power forward Caleb Houstan received an offer from the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Houstan is a 6’8 player from Mississauga, Canada. He is currently in his sophomore year at Montverde Academy in Montverde, FL., and is the fourth-best player in the country according to ESPN. This seems to follow the pattern of Roy Williams’ more aggressive recruiting tactics as of late, as he has been targeting some of the best players in the country very early on in their recruiting process (Paolo Banchero would be the most recent example of this).
This is an exciting offer really early in the game, and perhaps the best news of all is that 2022 is when the one-and-done era should be coming to an end. Of course this also means that there’s a chance that Houstan could opt to go pro, but with it being this early and there not being any clear plan from the NBA, anything is possible.
