Déjà vu is the feeling that one has lived through the present situation before.
Once upon a time, not very long ago, the Tar Heels were flying high early in the season. They welcomed Virginia Tech to Kenan Stadium in October for a much-anticipated ranked matchup. Hurricane Matthew had bigger plans for the day, however, and Larry Fedora’s game plan of having Mitch Trubisky throwing the ball 100 times in driving winds and rain ended poorly.
Both the Tar Heels and the Hokies are ranked again in October, and the Heels will be hosting them in Kenan Stadium Saturday afternoon. The weather? Rain related to Hurricane Delta that made landfall along the Gulf Coast yesterday. Of course.
There are some key differences. The remnants from Delta aren’t supposed to be anything near what the effects from Matthew were. Still, the part of my soul that has never dried out from that game gets some pretty gnarly flashbacks from all the similarities.
Sorry to put that evil out into the universe like that, but the parallels were too much to ignore. Here’s hoping we’re owed a different outcome this time.
As always, we’ll be back after the game with a complete roundup of the happenings. Until then...
Go Heels!
