The Halloween night game turned out to be a spooky one for North Carolina Tar Heels, as they fell on the road at Virginia. They were one of five ranked teams who fell this weekend, causing a slight shakeup in the latest edition of the AP Top 25 Poll.

In this week’s poll, we have three new teams. Seven non-power five teams are ranked, including three in the top 15, and two in the top 10. Now that the dust has settled let’s see where things stand after the latest college football weekend.

AP Top 25 Poll

  1. Clemson Tigers (33 First Place Votes)
  2. Alabama Crimson Tide (29)
  3. Ohio State Buckeyes
  4. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Where is UNC?

Yeah, about that...

After a second loss in three weeks to an unranked team, the Tar Heels have fallen out of the top 25. They received the third most votes of anyone not in the poll, so you could say they are #28. UNC finished 26 points behind #25 Liberty. They’re still at #24 in the coaches’ poll, however, comfortably ahead of the 25th and 26th placed teams. A win over Duke this weekend could see them get right back in.

Biggest Winners

Coastal Carolina’s incredible rise continues. They are now a top 15 team after crushing Georgia State 51-0. It bears mentioning, this team was in FCS in 2016. They are now 6-0 and in the top 15 in November just four years later. Impressive.

Elsewhere, it was a big week for jumps in the Big 12. Iowa State moved up six spots to #17, Oklahoma is up five at #19, and Texas rejoined the poll and is up at #22 after getting just two votes last week, the biggest change of anyone this week.

Biggest Losers

UNC is the unfortunate recipient of the biggest drop after going into last weekend at #15. However, they weren’t the only team in the 15-20 range to completely fall out of the top 25. Kansas State and Penn State are also out after being #16 and #18 respectively last week.

Michigan also had a big fall, dropping ten spots after their loss to Michigan State.
