UNC Basketball opens season against College of Charleston

It’s time.

NCAA Basketball: Virginia at North Carolina Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

It feels like it has been four years since we last saw UNC play basketball. That’s obviously not true, but 2020 has been a whole thing. The Tar Heels are back in action tonight with a lot of newcomers ready to make a big splash in their Carolina debuts.

Freshmen aside, this team will clearly be led by senior Garrison Brooks. As talented as the incoming players are, this team can probably only go as far as Brooks can take them. UNC has the size that will allow Brooks to stay in the 4 position that seems more comfortable to him. Hopefully that yields some good results.

The biggest question surrounding this season is just how college basketball as a whole will handle the coronavirus pandemic. College football has struggled mightily and the virus is much easier to transmit inside. Our friends eight miles down the road have already had two games called off before the season even starts. It’s an inauspicious beginning to what could be a very long season, but Mack Brown has been able to keep his squad out of the thick of the problems and hopefully Roy Williams will too.

As always, we’ll be back after the game with a complete roundup of the happenings. Until then...

Go Heels!
