We all know how these early season tournaments work, right? You win your first game and then you move on to the next game that’s played the next night. Likely, many of you thought that when the Tar Heels beat UNLV last night it set up the Tar Heels to play later tonight.
You would be wrong.
Thanks to the wacky Covid schedule, the Maui Invitational was scheduled to coincide along with the Champions Classic tonight. Keep in mind, pre-covid the latter would have happened first, and the former would have happened last week. Now, even organizers are just trying to squeeze in what they can, and it creates these bottlenecks. Thus, the winners are playing early today, whereas the 5th-8th place bracket, aka the less interesting slate, is happening in the evening at the same time some other teams are playing.
That’s going to create a quick turnaround for both the Tar Heels and especially Stanford as they’ll have to play about 16 hours after their last game ended. But hey, we’re getting basketball, so is anyone going to complain?
So get ready for late afternoon basketball, and if you have work today you might want to plan on finishing early if you can. At least a bunch of us are home now anyway, right?
Here’s how you can catch the action, and keep your eyes here for our breakdown of that great win against UNLV to prep you for today’s game!
