UNC Basketball: Texas Game Thread

For the championship!

Last night’s win over Stanford was one of the least aesthetically pleasing basketball games I can remember. Thankfully it ended in a win so we can laugh about it now instead of bemoaning the 20+ turnovers and Teddy Valentine’s general ineptitude.

Today the Tar Heels get to face a foe that has been a thorn in their side the last several years. I can’t remember the last time a game against Texas didn’t end in pain. Shaka Smart’s team is all that stands between UNC and another Maui Invitational championship, which has been a harbinger of national championships in the past. It doesn’t mean a lot, but it doesn’t mean nothing either.

Offense has been a sticking point in the games from Asheville so far. Carolina sputtered out of the gate against UNLV before charging back to finish strong, and were far too careless with the ball to get into any rhythm as they eked one out over the Cardinal yesterday afternoon. Here’s hoping that continues to gel, starting with today’s game, and we can finally get a relaxing first half of basketball.

As always, we’ll be back after the game with a complete roundup of the happenings. Until then...

Go Heels!
