ACC Football Week 14: Staff Predictions

It was supposed to be the last weekend of the regular season, and the top spot is still in doubt.

We made it, folks. One last weekend before the ACC Championship game is played in Charlotte, which in the original plan was supposed to be this weekend. It doesn’t matter, in what seems like a minor miracle, games with big bowl implications will be played this weekend.

If there were ever a weekend where writers were punished for having to get their predictions in early, it was last one. Boston College had done a great job of impressing everyone in the conference, to the point where one of us even joked he’d be leaving for Michigan after just one year in Chestnut Hill. Thus, there was a near universal picking of the Eagles against the Cavs. Unfortunately, BC’s Phil Jurkovec was hurt near the end of their game prior to UVa, and wasn’t healthy enough to be able to play in Charlottesville. Thus, Virginia spoiled the sheet for everyone.

Everyone except Evan.

The one picker we all couldn’t afford to have a perfect week just had a perfect week, and thus Evan extends his lead at the top of the heap with precious little time for us all to try to take the title from him.

Still, the results from last week were impressive, so let’s remind ourselves what we all said:

This weekend’s slate isn’t really going to produce much in the way of difference. After one week of traitors, the staff as a whole has decided to push through our hopes that Carolina can make the Orange Bowl. Will the third time in a nationally televised game be a charm for this team?

As you can see, Evan has opened up a three game lead over his next closest competition, and with only five games this weekend and all of us picking UNC, it’s going to be tough for anyone to make a dent. Still, you never know, especially if a couple of upsets happen.

Also, yes, Jake has firmly embraced the fact he’s going to finish in the basement and wanted to get the Louisville joke off. He’ll still get a loss for that game, but it made me laughs and hopefully it made you chuckle also.

We’ll see you all at 3:30 on Saturday. Hopefully it’ll be the first of two consecutive visits to Hard Rock Stadium for the Heels.
