UNC vs. Wake Forest: Game Thread

It’s time to see how much the Tar Heels have left in the tank after yet another soul-crushing loss.

NCAA Basketball: Duke at North Carolina Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

The North Carolina Tar Heels (10-13 overall, 3-9 ACC) are set to take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (10-13 overall, 3-10 ACC) at Lawrence Joel Coliseum in Winston Salem, NC. This will be the first game in a home-and-home series between the two teams, with the second matchup scheduled to take place at the beginning of March.

The Tar Heels will yet again be without senior guard Brandon Robinson, and Garrison Brooks is looks like he may be a go tonight after suffering an eye injury he suffered during the Duke game, though there’s no official word at the time of writing. He has been spotted wearing sports specs during warmups, so one has to feel good about the chances of him seeing action. The Heels definitely can’t afford anymore players sitting out due to injury, as the window for this team to gain some momentum going into the ACC Tournament is rapidly closing.

As for Wake Forest, they are currently on a two-game losing streak thanks to losses to Louisville and Syracuse. They have gotten torched quite a bit box score-wise in their losses, with just a few close losses under their belt. In theory, and I can’t stress that part enough, this is a good opportunity for the Heels to bounce back from that devastating buzzer-beater loss to Duke in the Smith Center. However, college basketball is drunk and UNC has had an extremely difficult time closing out games, so whether or not anything will be different tonight is anybody’s guess.

As always, we’ll be back after the game for post-game analysis. Let’s hope we actually get to talk about a win tonight.

Go Heels!
