It may or may not be safe to say that last night’s game didn’t end how any of us thought it would. For the readers out there that saw it coming, I would advise that you also go play the upcoming lottery right now because you will make yourself a large amount of money. We’re not here to discuss potentially becoming rich, however. We’re here to discuss the Player of the Game for the UNC/Syracuse game.
Garrison Brooks was easily the best player on the court for the Tar Heels last night, finishing the game with 18 points and 4 rebounds. As we all know the 2-3 zone is designed to stop players like Brooks in the paint, but he was able to bully his way to the hoop effectively. Unfortunately everything else for the team was quite a struggle, but he gave his team everything he had in the tank in what was a really bizarre final game.
Honorable mention for the game goes to Leaky Black, who scored 12 of his 14 career-high points in the second half. Black struggled to find any rhythm in the first half, but in the second half he looked like a player that wasn't ready for the season to be over despite the massive hole that was already dug. It was an up and down year for him, which was at least partly due to the fact that he had to slide over to the point guard position as often as he did due to injuries, but hopefully next season we’ll be in for a big year from him in a more consistent role.
It is really unfortunate that the Tar Heels weren’t able to get the job done behind Brooks and Black’s performances, but at the time of writing this article there’s a chance that there won’t be anymore games played in the ACC or NCAA Tournaments played at all. Everyone stay safe out there, and take all warnings and instructions as serious as possible.
Go Heels!
