UNC comes into today’s regular season finale against Duke riding some much-needed momentum. The Tar Heels have won three games in a row, and they’ll need to keep that momentum up if they want any chance of turning the ACC Tournament into a run to the NCAA Tournament.
Losing today wouldn’t mean that the Heels can’t make the NCAA Tournament, but tougher trials are ahead. They’ll need to win five straight next week to qualify, likely needing to go through a team like Duke, if not Duke themselves, in order to get there.
Winning today would keep that momentum going. Listening to the players talk, they still have the confidence that they can get the job done. The way they have been playing lately would suggest that they at least have a shot, and higher seeded teams probably can’t feel good about having to face off with the Heels playing like they are right now.
Today isn’t win-or-go-home. It is, however, the very last game that won’t be. Hopefully UNC can keep that momentum going to ride it into next week.
As always, we’ll be back after the game with a complete roundup of the happenings. Until then...
Go Heels!
