UNC Football’s game against UNC Charlotte on Saturday has been canceled after a member of the 49ers tested positive for coronavirus. The positive test required “several” members of the team’s offensive line to quarantine, so they will not be able to play this weekend.

It seemed inevitable that this would happen at some point this season for the Tar Heels. Other teams have already experienced this issue with NC State’s first game getting pushed back and Virginia vs Virginia Tech not happening this weekend because of issues with the virus in Blacksburg.

This season is going to be an adventure in rolling with the punches, and this is one of them. The good news is that the issue was able to be found before the 49ers came to Chapel Hill, possibly setting off an even bigger problem.

UNC has a scheduled bye week next week, so it’s unclear how the team proceeds from here. They likely want to avoid two straight weeks without games so maybe some shuffling can occur. We’ll keep you posted on that.
