Tonight, the North Carolina Tar Heels travel to Pittsburgh seeking to snap a two-game losing streak to Pitt.
The Tar Heels and Panthers are the top rebounding teams in the ACC. Half of the top six individual rebounding leaders will play this evening, with Pitt’s Justin Champagnie and UNC’s Day’Ron Sharpe and Armando Bacot all facing off in this battle of the boards. Do not sleep on Garrison Brooks, either, though. Despite a relatively down year so far, Brooks is Carolina’s all-time leading rebounder against the Panthers with 33 career rebounds.
In addition to these top rebounders, each team brings a winner of one of the league’s weekly awards: Pitt’s player is one and the same, as Champagnie is the conference’s leading scorer, leading rebounder, and reigning ACC Player of the Week. On the other end, UNC’s Caleb Love, the ACC Freshman of the week, is on fire on both ends of the court, and has been a key factor in Carolina’s current two-game winning streak.
The Tar Heels will have a week-long break in their schedule after this game, unless they reschedule one of their Covid-19-induced cancellations for this weekend. If UNC does not play until next Tuesday, the squad needs to win this game to end January on a high note.
