This is a huge week for recruiting for both football and basketball.

Welcome to this week’s recruiting update! This weekend is a busy one for both football and basketball. Carolina football will take on Miami in Kenan, and Mack Brown will have a ton of recruits in attendance. On the basketball side, it will be Hubert Davis’ first late night as a head coach, and a prized recruit in the 2023 class will be in attendance. Let’s go ahead and jump into some recruiting news.

Football

There will be a number of recruits from the 2022, 2023, and 2024 classes in attendance for the UNC game against Miami tomorrow, making it one of the most important games of the season for Mack Brown and his staff. We of course know the part to be nervous about, and that is how many fans will show up to the game. This turbulent season may have taken a toll on attendance, but honestly we will have to wait and see. There are always plenty of Miami fans at this game, so that might be enough to make the stadium seem more full than it otherwise would be.

As far as how many recruits will make it to the game, there will be at least 15-17. What’s notable is that some players that already committed to UNC will be in attendance, including Travis Shaw and Conner Harrell. I’ve been on the record of saying that it wouldn’t surprise me to see the team fired up for this game, so let’s just hope that it’s enough for them to pull off a win on and off the field.

Basketball

Tonight is Hubert Davis’ first Late Night as the head coach of Carolina basketball. It’s still very weird to say that, and I’m sure that the event will have a very weird feel without Roy Williams being the headliner. Regardless, the show must go on, and much like it has been for Williams in the past, this will be a good recruiting event for Davis. Things will start with a bang, because his first recruit for his first late night will be five-star forward G.G. Jackson.

Jackson is a 6’8 power forward that currently plays for Ridge View High School in Columbia, SC. He is ranked as the 10th-best recruit in the country, and the third-best power forward. Needless to say, he is a highly sought-after recruit, with offers from UNC, Duke, Clemson, South Carolina, NC State, and Florida State, just to name a few.

This will be an official visit for Jackson, so it’s very possible that he will end up at the football game against Miami as well. Hubert Davis and his staff has made Jackson a top priority, and so far it has showed in how aggressive they’ve been in their pursuit. Jackson likely has already seen what Davis wants to do with his new scheme, but getting to see everything come together in front of a crowd at the Dean Smith Center is a whole other animal. It should be a fun event, and hopefully it will get Davis that much closer to landing one of the best players in the country.
