Per multiple sources, sophomore wide receiver Khafre Brown has entered the NCAA transfer portal. This announcement arrives just two days after he missed UNC’s game against Miami.
Brown arrived on campus as the sixth-best wide receiver in the state of North Carolina, and the 31st-best in the country. During his freshman season, Brown caught 15 passes for 337 yards and a pair of touchdowns, but struggled mightily to get anything going this season after spending the entire offseason tending to a lower body injury over the summer. He finished his 2021 campaign with the Tar Heels catching one pass for 75 yards, but was targeted six times and had three drops per ESPN.
When it comes to why he is transferring, there is no information currently available. However, what we do know is that this leaves Sam Howell with Josh Downs, Antoine Green, Emery Simmons, Justin Olsen, and an entire cast of wide receivers that we haven’t seen/heard much from yet this season. Many of the remaining receivers are freshmen/sophomores, so now the question is how deep into the youth bag will Mack Brown be willing to dig to fill Brown’s spot. It could be that we don’t see much of a difference, but we will have to wait and see what happens next Saturday against Notre Dame.
Best of luck to Khafre Brown wherever he ends up next. Enjoy the bye week, Carolina fans, and check back in with us for any updates/news.
