There weren’t a ton of massive upsets over the weekend in college football, but there were still some fairly notable results.
In a rivalry battle of top ten teams, Michigan State picked up a late win over Michigan, cementing themselves as a potential Big Ten and College Football Playoff contender. Their likely main competition in the conference, Ohio State, played a close game against Penn State before pulling away towards the end. Another sterling performance from Georgia further established them as the team to beat.
Beyond that, there also were a handful of upsets. Nine unranked teams lost, with six coming against unranked teams, the highest of which was #9 Iowa. North Carolina had a chance to get in on the action against Notre Dame, but they came up short after playing the Irish close for a while.
Now that the dust has settled on another weekend, let’s take a look at where things stand in the top 25.

Where is UNC?
Despite playing now #8 Notre Dame decently well, UNC is still well off receiving any votes, never mind cracking the rankings. A win over undefeated #10 Wake Forest could garner them a place on a couple voters rankings, but even that wouldn’t get them into the top 25.
Biggest Winners
BYU played in the craziest game of the weekend with their 66-49 late night win over Virginia. (Non-zero chance that would be a higher score than if their basketball teams met this season.) As a result of the win, the Cougars moved up eight spots. One spot ahead of them is UTSA, who moved up seven spots in a historic season for their program.
Biggest Losers
The biggest drop of the week belongs to Iowa, who fell ten spots after losing at home to Wisconsin. As good as the Hawkeyes’ defense is, it appears you also need somewhat of an offense. Meanwhile, Pitt went from #17 to the first team out of the poll thanks to a home loss to Miami.
