Newly appointed head coach Hubert Davis has had a lot on his plate since his promotion, but he has done an impressive job getting things done. His latest accomplishment has been earning a commitment from Oklahoma Sooners transfer Brady Manek, per Sports Illustrated’s Quierra Luck.
Brady Manek will arrive at Chapel Hill as a fifth-year senior from Harrah, OK. He is a 6’9, 231-lb forward who averaged 10.8 points and five rebounds this past season. While his field goal percentage wasn’t nearly as good as his first three seasons (37.5%), it does look like Davis has added a forward who can shoot from deep. During his time with the Sooners, Manek shot 37.4% from three point range, with his best season shooting from behind the arc taking place his freshman year (38.3%). It is still too early to say whether or not this suggests that Davis is going to present a more modern scheme this fall, but he now has the option to stretch the floor should he choose to go that route.
Manek will be the second transfer to join the Tar Heels from the transfer portal, following in the footsteps of former UVA player Justin McKoy. There are still a large amount of transfers in the portal right now, and student-athletes still have until May 1st to decide whether or not they would like to add to the pile. It will be interesting to see who Hubert Davis brings in next, and we are still waiting to see if Armando Bacot decides to stay in college or stay in the NBA Draft.
