The staff for the North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball program is set for next season.
On Thursday, the program announced that Sean May, Jeff Lebo, Jackie Manuel, and Brad Frederick will serve as assistant coaches under new head coach Hubert Davis.

May, the 2005 Sports Illustrated National Player of the Year and First-Team All-American, will be promoted to the sidelines. He served the last four seasons as UNC’s Director of Basketball Operations.

Lebo, a four-year starter for Carolina in the late 1980s who remains one of the top assist and free throw shooters in program history, returns to the collegiate sidelines after resigning from the East Carolina head coach position in 2017. He has 20 years of head coaching experience.

Manuel, a two-time member of the All-ACC Defensive Team, is moving to the men’s bench from his position as the women’s basketball Director of Player Personnel, Development and Recruiting Operations. He has previous experience as an assistant coach, with eight years on the sidelines of UNCG, Valparaiso, and UNCW.

Frederick, a member of UNC’s basketball team under coaches Dean Smith and Bill Guthridge, will remain as an assistant coach. He was an assistant coach for four season under Roy Williams, and has another 14 season of assistant coach experience.
Eric Hoots, a Carolina grad and three-year Tar Heel varsity manager, enters his 18th season with the program. He will be promoted to Director of Basketball Operations.
