UNC Recruiting Week of 5/17: Hubert Davis offers 2022 four-star point guard Seth Trimble

Will biological family help Hubert Davis land the next member of the Carolina family?

Welcome to this week’s recruiting update! It has been a very quiet week in both recruiting and basketball, but as AAU play starts to ramp up I’d expect Hubert Davis to be a very busy man moving forward. With that said, let’s discuss a four-star running back that has named UNC in his top ten, a recruit that Davis may consider offering a scholarship in the near future, and a late offer that was made last night.

Football

Last Friday, four-star 2022 running back George Pettaway released his top ten list. The schools that made the cut are UNC, Ole Miss, Michigan, Florida, Virginia Tech, Alabama, Auburn, Oregon, Penn State, and Virginia.

Pettaway is a 5’11, 190-lb running back that currently plays for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy in Suffolk, VA. He is the sixth-best running back in the country, which also makes him the highest-ranked running back on Mack Brown’s recruiting board.

As far as which school is in the lead for the dynamic back, it really depends right now on which recruiting analyst you trust the most. 247Sports has one crystal ball prediction in for Pettaway in favor of the Tar Heels, while Rivals gave Virginia Tech the number one ranking in an article they released about each contender. Rivals ranked Carolina number three on their list, pointing to Pettaway’s relationships with Dre Bly and running back coach Larry Porter. They also referred to Michael Carter and Javonte Williams’ spectacular performances last season, both of which caught Pettaway’s competition.

Currently Pettaway does not have an official visit to Chapel Hill scheduled, but he has visits scheduled to Michigan and Penn State. He told 247Sports that he didn’t feel like he had to take official visits to schools that were close by his hometown, so it wouldn’t surprise me if we see him show up to a couple of UNC games this fall.

Basketball

  • Four-star 2023 prospect G.G. Jackson has gotten a lot of attention since he shot his way up the high school rankings last year. It is because of this that UNC has been in touch with the 6’8 power forward according to 247Sports. Jackson currently holds scholarship offers from NC State, Clemson, South Carolina, Syracuse, and Wake Forest.

Here is what Jackson had to say about his communication with Carolina:

“The recruiting process is going pretty good,” he said. “North Carolina has reached out recently and hopefully we can go on from there with that school.”

“They gave me the rundown that they had been watching me and it made me feel pretty good,” he added of his communication with the Tar Heels’ program.

Coaches will be able to check Jackson out in person starting in June. Should Hubert Davis and his assistants like what they see and offer a scholarship, it would be only the second scholarship offered in the 2023 class with five-star point guard Robert Dillingham holding the other. Hopefully we are able to get more information on G.G. Jackson’s game in the near future once summer leagues start to pick up steam.

  • Last night Hubert Davis revealed that he has offered a scholarship to 2022 four-star point guard Seth Trimble per Inside Carolina. While the first name that comes to mind when hearing that name is Melo Trimble, Seth is actually former Tar Heel J.P. Tokoto’s younger brother. He is also ranked 78th in the country, and is the 14th best point guard in the class.

During his junior season, Trimble averaged 23.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game for Menomonee Falls in Menomonee Falls, WI. 247Sports basketball analyst Eric Bossi says that Trimble is an athletic floor general that is extremely hard to deal with when he is attacking, and a source close to the program says that he is a great defender. Trimble holds scholarship offers from a laundry list of Power Five schools, including Illinois, Cal, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and TCU. UNC is the first ACC school to offer, though Virginia is listed as a team that currently has him on their radar.
