Four members of the national champion North Carolina Tar Heels field hockey team earned All-American honors this week.

The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced their selections for first, second, and third-team All-Americans.

Below are the Tar Heels honored:

First Team

  • Amanda Hendry
  • Erin Matson

Second Team

  • Eva Smolenaars

Third Team

  • Meredith Sholder

In addition to these All-American honors, Hendry, Matson, Smolenaars, and Sholder were named to the All-South Region first team and the NCAA All-Tournament team.

For Matson, the junior earned first-team All-American honors for the third year in a row. She also is the 2021 ACC Offensive Player of the Year and the Honda Sports Award for the top field hockey player in the nation.

Matson and Smolenaars earned All-ACC first-team honors back in April.

Hendry, a four-year starter in goal, is the 41st Carolina field hockey player on the 68th occasion named to the All-American first team.

Hendry and Sholder were named to the All-ACC second team.

Congratulations to these Tar Heels!
