This week, North Carolina Tar Heels freshman Peter Fountain earned his second All-American honor.
Fountain was named to the Golfweek All-American First Team. He was previously named to the PING/Golf Coaches Association of America All-American First Team.
He is the first Tar Heel to earn First Team All-American honors since Kevin O’Connell in 2008.
Fountain was the ACC Freshman of the Year and was named to the All-ACC First Team.
He had an impressive season as he led the league in scoring average with a 69.68. This sub-70 scoring average was a UNC program record.
Fountain was an integral part of Carolina’s successful season.
The Tar Heels finished the season with a no. 5 ranking in the Golfweek Men’s Team Collegiate Rankings.
UNC won the stroke play portion of the ACC Championship, and finished the year tied for fifth place in the NCAA Championship. This was the highest NCAA finish for Carolina since the team finished as the national runner up in 1993.
Congratulations on this honor!
