Time really does feel like it’s moving in weird directions. For example, it feels like we were just trying to absorb the end to the UNC Baseball season, and all of a sudden we see football teams gathering in Charlotte to talk about the upcoming season. In two weeks football practice will have begun, and not too long after that students will be back on campus as life slowly creeps back to normal.
Until then, though, several members of the Diamond Heels are scattered across the country refining their skill in Summer Leagues, trying to catch the eye of MLB staffs and getting the work in so they can make a name for themselves in the 2022 baseball season. There will be plenty of opportunities for them, the question is who will be able to seize it?
One player making a name for himself is Mac Horvath. Mac is in the Northwoods League, up in Minnesota, and he actually participated in their Home Run Challenge on Monday. He did well, finishing in second.
11 wasn’t enough to win it, but it came awfully close!

Congrats to @MacHorvath for placing second in the @NWLbaseball Home Run Challenge! #FunForTheWholeFlock pic.twitter.com/eSkOVaHLMm
Any time you’re chosen for a HR contest it means you’ve put up some power, and Mac has done just that. He only has four homers, but you’ll see in his stats below that he’s been making an impact. Unlike MLB, you only do the home run contest if you make it to the All-Star Game, and Mac got the invite for the Northwoods League. He didn’t do anything in his one at bat, but as you’ll see his stats made the invite a well-earned one. We’ll see if it translates for him back in Chapel Hill
Let’s see how he and the other Tar Heels playing summer ball are doing.
