UNC’s star quarterback Sam Howell has received an abundance of attention this offseason. In fact, his name can be seen on almost every watch list in college football prior to what should be a promising season for the Tar Heels. This morning another title was added to his name, and that is ACC Preseason Player of the Year.

Today it was announced that Howell received an overwhelming amount of the votes for preseason ACC POY by media members. Coming into second place of his 114 votes was Miami quarterback D’Eriq King, who received just 11 nods, and in third place was Clemson defensive lineman Bryan Bresee with eight votes.

Howell will have the fortune of having his offensive line return, but the guys that he will be throwing will be almost a different lineup entirely. Howell mentioned during the ACC Kickoff event that the receivers are hungry after hearing all of the talk about how the Heels have lost production, and we will find out if they are able to silence everyone in a matter of weeks. Mack Brown also brought in some help in the ground game, as Tennessee transfer Ty Chandler is expected to make his UNC debut against Virginia Tech on September 3rd.

While Howell becoming the preseason player of the year is the biggest news, it is also worth noting the other two Tar Heels that made the preseason All-ACC team. Offensive guard Joshua Ezeudu and cornerback Tony Grimes both made the cut, and both players are expected to have big time seasons.

Needless to say, Sam Howell has the weight of the world on his shoulders going into the first game against the Hokies. So far he has shown that the moment doesn’t phase him in the slightest, so as the bright lights start to become even more blinding we will see how well he is able to handle it. What do you think of Howell being selected as preseason ACC POY? Let us know in the comments below.
