With the pros out of the equation, the promising sophomore forward will pick between four schools.

Yesterday afternoon, College Basketball Analyst Jon Rothstein tweeted that soon-to-be sophomore forward and potential Marquette transfer Dawson Garcia has withdrawn his name from the NBA Draft, and plans to play in college for another year.

The announcement of Garcia returning to college comes just days after Inside Carolina’s Sherrell McMillan confirmed that he was taking an official visit to UNC. Now that Garcia has withdrawn his name from the draft, he plans to pick between UNC, Arizona, Illinois, or he may ultimately decide to return to Marquette. Dawson finished his freshman campaign with the Golden Eagles averaging 13 points, 6.6 rebounds, 0.8 assists, and knocked down 48% of his shots from the field. He also drained 35% of his three-point attempts, which makes it no secret as to why Hubert Davis has reconnected with Garcia once the news broke that he was open to transferring.

For those who may not know, former head coach Roy Williams (I will never not feel weird saying that) offered Dawson Garcia a scholarship back in 2019 following an impressive performance at the 2019 NBPA Camp. Hubert Davis became Garcia’s lead recruiter, so one can imagine that the two still have a good relationship despite UNC failing to earn his commitment. As McMillan reported via IC, Garcia’s recruitment ended right around the time that Walker Kessler committed to the Tar Heels. Now that Kessler is with Auburn, the door is wide open for Garcia to make is way to Chapel Hill and likely get immediate impact minutes.

The big question now is whether or not Garcia could transfer to UNC, or if he will explore one of his other options. Right now it’s hard to say which way he is leaning, but what we do know is that he plans on making his decision soon. Stay locked in with us here at THB, as we will provide more information when it becomes available, or when an official announcement is made.
