We are just moments away from the Tar Heels taking on the Villanova Wildcats in the semifinal round of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament. The Heels are coming off of a decisive win against Northern Iowa, but those that watched the game knows that the final score tells a very different story than what actually happened. Struggles shooting and defending the ball in the first half made it an uphill climb to come out on top. Meanwhile, Villanova didn’t have as hard of a time dealing with one of the best defenses in the country in Texas Tech as one would’ve expected. Were they offensive juggernauts? No, but the Red Raiders turned the ball over 15 times and only made 59 percent of their free throws, so both of those factors went a long way in helping the Wildcats secure a victory.
The two big keys to the Heels winning tonight’s game will be winning the battle on the boards and shooting efficiently for both halves. They also have a chance to take advantage of Villanova’s smaller size in the paint, but Armando Bacot will have to do his best to stay out of foul trouble in order to do so. It will also be interesting to see if whether or not Cormac Ryan will be able to continue his hot shooting from the second half against the Panthers, and also whether or not Harrison Ingram can build off of his impressive performance.
This game should be a really good one, and if the Heels win they will face the winner of the Arkansas/Memphis game. As always, we will be here after this afternoon’s game with some postgame analysis.
Happy Thanksgiving, and Go Heels!
