UNC Baseball: No. 14 in Preseason Poll, Honeycutt Named Preseason All-American

The Diamond Heels are no. 14 in the Perfect Game poll.

The North Carolina Tar Heels baseball team is on one of the first preseason polls of the 2024 season.

Perfect Game released its 2024 preseason poll and preseason All-Americans this week. Carolina is ranked no. 14, and junior centerfielder Vance Honeycutt was named to the preseason All-American Third Team.

UNC is one of six ACC teams in the preseason poll. The ACC has the second-most teams in the poll, behind the SEC with eight teams.

Wake Forest is ranked first, Virginia is 10th, North Carolina State is 19th, Clemson is 21st, and Duke is 23rd.

Of note, future ACC member Stanford is ranked 12th, and North Carolina neighbor East Carolina is ranked 17th.

Honeycutt, the reigning ACC Defensive Player of the Year, earned a preseason All-American Third Team spot.

As an ACC Third Team selection last year during his sophomore season, Honeycutt posted a .910 OPS with 12 home runs, 43 RBIs, and 19 stolen bases.

Honeycutt is looking to surpass his output from his freshman season. He was a consensus Freshman All-American while being named a third-team All-American by Baseball America, D1 Baseball, and Perfect Game.

During that season, Honeycutt set the UNC single-season record for home runs (25). Among all freshmen in 2022, he was second in home runs, runs scored (66), total bases (166), and third in slugging percentage (.672), and stolen bases (29).
