The Tar Heels head down to South Carolina for an early afternoon matchup against Clemson on Saturday. The Tigers are currently one of three ranked ACC teams, joining UNC and Duke, at #16 in the country.
Clemson sits at 11-2 on the season with their most recent loss coming last time out on the road at Miami. They also lost to Memphis earlier in the season. Their best win of the season came against Alabama, who was ranked 23rd at the time, but has since fallen out of the top 25.
Just looking at the numbers, the Tar Heels and Tigers are pretty even to this point in the season. They are averaging right around the same number of points and allowing right around the same points to their opponents. Clemson’s defense is ranked 50th according to KenPom with a 17th-ranked offense. By comparison, UNC has the 26th best defense and 12th best offense.
Hopefully UNC’s challenging non-conference schedule helped them be battle tested for some of these ACC road games in arenas that have troubled them in the past. Winning at Pittsburgh was a big one to check off the list, and the next two would be big as well.
As always, we’ll be back after the game with a complete roundup of the happenings. Until then...
