The Cape Cod Baseball League season rolls on. This Saturday, the CCBL gets together in Wareham for their annual All-Star Game, and the participants have been announced.
Congratulation to Tyler Baum! The pitcher hurling for Harwich is the only Diamond Heel named to the team, playing for the East squad. He won’t be their starting pitcher, but getting into the game is a big honor when you consider they only choose a starting nine, a DH, and five for the bench on the batter side, plus nine other pitchers per squad. You have to really stand out in order to get the call, so hopefully Baum will represent the Tar Heels in more than name only Saturday.
Baum earned his All-Star honors by being among the league leaders in wins (3), strikeouts (28), and ERA among starters (2.61).
The All-Star festivities will include a Home Run Derby prior to the game. There will also likely be some future major league players to take the field, with scouts in the crowd trying to gather information for future drafts.
All in all, it should be a fun time. If you happen to be in the Cape Area this weekend, might be worth the $10 to go and see.

I felt it important to break apart Hiatt’s two appearances as one was a blown save, and then he followed that up by saving the next game facing only three batters in one inning. He might look awful for the week, but overall it was a mediocre few days.
After the All-Star Game, players only have two more weeks of games before the playoffs start. Come back next week!
