How are members of the UNC Baseball team doing on the Cape?

The college baseball season is now over. Congrats to Florida for taking down LSU and winning the title, and special shout out to Cole Maye, brother of Luke, for showing that titles just run in the Maye family. Luke was happy.

With that done, the only baseball left involving college kids are the summer leagues. We gave an update last week on how the kids on the Cape are doing. Here is an update on their performance since then.

The nature of the Cape League is such that you start seeing the same people pretty quickly, and it forces everyone to adjust. Brandon Riley has cooled down a little after his hot start but is still leading the Diamond Heel Hitters. Datres has added about 30 points to his average. The two catchers are still struggling, hitting well below .200 each.

It’s disappointing that Peto hasn’t had a chance to get over his last outing where he only lasted three innings. The hope is his next start gives him a chance to get that ERA a little lower. Hiatt continues his scoreless streak, and Sugg had a good inning of work to get that ERA a little lower.

Diamond Heels in the news:

  • Via Cape Cod Times: Ashton McGee was responsible for the tying run in the top of the ninth in their game against Harwich.
  • Also the Cape Cod Times: Brandon Riley was responsible for an Orleans run, but the story is Tyler Baum’s 3-0 record, including his one run, 7.0-inning win.

Check in next week to see how they’re doing!
