The Tar Heels have made it past Texas Southern and Arkansas in the last week to reach the Sweet Sixteen. On Thursday and Friday, these 16 teams will face off as we work our way closer to the title game. The Tar Heel Blog staff predicted which teams would come out on top in this round in order to get a sense of what the Elite Eight will look like this year.

Sweet Sixteen THB Staff Picks

Staff Wisconsin vs. Florida Baylor vs. South Carolina Gonzaga vs. West Virginia Xavier vs. Arizona Kansas vs. Purdue Oregon vs. Michigan North Carolina vs. Butler UCLA vs. Kentucky

Daniel Wisconsin South Carolina West Virginia Arizona Kansas Michigan North Carolina UCLA
Brandon Florida Baylor Gonzaga Arizona Kansas Michigan North Carolina Kentucky
Akil Florida Baylor West Virginia Arizona Purdue Oregon North Carolina Kentucky

Obviously, the entire staff that answered believes that North Carolina will beat Butler, but that’s not the only matchup with overwhelming expectations. Everyone is pretty convinced that Arizona will beat Xavier, while most have Baylor beating South Carolina, Kansas over Purdue, and Michigan defeating Oregon.

Not everything is as clear as those games look to be. The staff was more arguable when it comes to UCLA vs. Kentucky and Gonzaga vs. West Virginia. The vote was actually split when it came to Wisconsin vs. Florida, meaning it should be a good matchup that could go either way

Who do you have winning in the Sweet Sixteen? How do you think UNC’s game against Butler will go?
