It has been announced that the Tar Heels will hang the 2017 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship banner, the seventh men’s banner to hang in the Dean Smith Center, at this year’s Late Night with Roy event.
Everyone loves Late Night with Roy. In a way, it kind of defines why Carolina fans love the Tar Heels and Roy Williams’ method of team-building. It presents an opportunity for fans to get to know players over the course of several years, both as players and as people.
One of my personal all-time favorite LNWR memories is Kennedy Meeks bringing down the house with a passionate lip-sync of Whitney Houston’s “And I Will Always Love You:”
Now, for no cost other than the expense of getting yourself to the Dean Dome, fans will be able to see another piece of UNC’s storied history become entrenched into the campus. The rafters will probably not yet be updated with 2017 1st Team All-American and team MVP Justin Jackson’s #44 because, like previous honorees Marcus Paige and Brice Johnson, his number will likely be retired during the 2016-17 season.
It’s also important to note that this will be the first Late Night with Roy since the Tar Heel Lights app was created, giving the Tar Heel crew a chance to play with some light show theatrics like they did at times during the season. If you forgot what that looks like, here you go:
The event promises to be electric. Late Night With Roy will be on Friday, October 13. The time has yet to be announced.
