AP Top 25 Poll - Week Seven

How far did the Heels fall after their loss to Virginia Tech? A closer look at this week’s AP Top 25 Poll.

NCAA Football: Virginia Tech at North Carolina Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

It is hard to believe that close to half of the college football season is already over. The top five teams remain the same in the AP poll, while the rest of the teams in the top 25 continue to reshuffle. There are four Big Ten teams in the top 10 this week, which is the first time that has happened since 1960. How far did the Tar Heels fall after their home loss to Virginia Tech? Let’s take a closer look at this week’s AP Top 25 poll.

AP Top 25 Poll

  1. Alabama (56) 6-0
  2. Ohio State (2) 5-0
  3. Clemson (2) 6-0
  4. Michigan (1) 6-0
  5. Washington 6-0
  6. Texas A&M 6-0
  7. Louisville 4-1
  8. Wisconsin 4-1
  9. Tennessee 5-1
  10. Nebraska 5-0
  11. Baylor 5-0
  12. Ole Miss 3-2
  13. Houston 5-1
  14. Florida State 4-2
  15. Boise State 5-0
  16. Miami 4-1
  17. Virginia Tech 4-1
  18. Florida 4-1
  19. Oklahoma 3-2
  20. West Virginia 4-0
  21. Utah 5-1
  22. Arkansas 4-2
  23. Auburn 4-2
  24. Western Michigan 6-0
  25. Navy 4-1

Where is UNC?

After the 34-3 home loss to Virginia Tech, the Heels fell all the way to No. 27. For some reason, Pat Caputo (The Oakland Press) had UNC ranked at No. 12. That is really nice of him, but come on, No. 12? He had the Tar Heels ranked ten spots higher than Virginia Tech. I just have to assume this was a mistake, and that he totally missed watching Saturday’s game or thought it was cancelled because of the hurricane.

UNC has a chance to climb back into the top 25 next week with a victory over No. 16 Miami.

Heisman Watch

Well, talking about a potential Heisman candidate was fun while it lasted for UNC fans. Mitch Trubisky had a tough time, along with the rest of the UNC offense, against Bud Foster’s defense on Saturday.

Could this be a race between two quarterbacks in the ACC? Right now, I would give the edge to Lamar Jackson, but Deshaun Watson has the skills and talent to catch him. It will certainly be fun to watch in the second half of the season.
