A vote for the greatest UNC football moment.

Right now is a great time to be a Tar Heel. UNC is coming off of two big wins, propelling them from the depths of unranked life to the No. 17 team in the country. Just two weeks ago we all experienced one of the best endings, and best catches, in UNC football history. Against Pitt, Mitch Trubisky found Bug Howard for a one-handed, game-winning touchdown with literally zero seconds left on the clock.

Most of us probably thought that was the best ending to a game we would see for a long time. Cut to this past week against FSU when UNC received the ball at their own 25-yard line with 23 seconds left in the game. The Tar Heels marched up the field, Nick Weiler lined up for a 54-yard field goal, and the rest is history.

Two great games, two great finishes. These two weeks got us thinking–what is the greatest moment in UNC football history?

It is difficult to rank these moments and give them precedent over each other, so I thought I would ask you fans to let us know what UNC moment is the greatest of them all.

The list was difficult to draw out but a few had to be picked. So here is the list in chronological order:

The T. A. McLendon Game - 2004

The first one on this list is the T. A. McLendon game. Was his knee down? Yes. Even if it wasn't, NC State had another chance to score. Regardless, the ending was epic and watching it gives me goosebumps. Plus, what is better than stuffing State and watching them fumble on the goal line?

Barth’s field goal vs. Miami - 2004

The next one on the list is Connor Barth’s field goal against #3 Miami. What makes this field goal so great was that it was against a team they weren’t supposed to beat, which helped give UNC their first win over a top-5 program in school history.

Bernard’s punt return vs. NC State - 2012

Bernard’s punt return was glorious. Tied game, 30 seconds left, against NC State. To add more significance to it, the punt return ended a five-game losing streak to the Wolf Pack. One of UNC football’s special moments, and for that, Bernard and that punt return will live on forever.

OT winner vs. Virginia Tech - 2015

The overtime win against Virginia Tech was not only played on the road for Frank Beamer’s last home game, but also gave UNC their first Coastal Division title.

Bug Howard’s catch vs. Pitt - 2016

UNC was down the entire game, drove 63 yards in 3:33, converted three 4th down conversions, and scored on 3rd and goal with two seconds left and no timeouts. Was it a big game against a ranked team or rival? No. Was it a season-saving play? Maybe. The season is too young to truly comprehend the importance of the play, but the drive was incredible and so was the catch.

Nick Weiler’s field goal vs. Florida State

UNC was on the road against the 12th ranked Seminoles. FSU had an FBS leading 22-game home winning streak on the line, dating back to 2012. UNC received the ball at their own 25-yard line with 23 seconds left. The Tar Heels marched up the field and Nick Weiler kicked in a 54-yard field goal as time expired to give us a great finish, and an even better celebration.

There it is everyone. Let us know what you think and vote below.
