Just days following National Signing Day, it looks like the Tar Heels will have almost a completely different coaching staff in 2017. Two days after the announcement that defensive coordinator Gene Chizik will be leaving the program, running backs coach Larry Porter is heading to Auburn.
Porter has been with the program since 2014 and proved to be extremely important in turning the team around. His biggest contribution was helping to turn Elijah Hood and T.J. Logan into two of the best running backs in the ACC.
UNC also loses an extremely talented recruiter, who was instrumental in the recruitment of 2017 running backs Atwuan Branch and Michael Carter, defensive tackle Jordon Riley, cornerback Dazz Newsome, and kicker Noah Ruggles.
Larry Fedora will have his work cut out for him in replacing what Porter brought to the staff, not just as a coach but also as a recruiter. Whoever gets the job will join new additions co-defensive coordinator Mike Ekeler, defensive backs coach Terry Joseph, and defensive line coach Deke Adams.
