Remember Usain Bolt’s 100-meter win at Beijing 2008? How he just burst away from the pack in the last 30 yards, thumping his chest as we went? That’s kind of how watching this past weekend (and by extension reading the latest poll) felt. This is Alabama’s world. We’re just living in it. Here is the latest AP Poll in College Football:

Biggest Winners

Boston College and Syracuse both made big jumps in the polls this week, with the Orange climbing 9 spots and the Golden Eagles 7. Both teams have the dubious honor of being quality teams in the loaded Atlantic Division of the ACC, as opposed to the pathetic sewage pond that is the Coastal. Were it not for a dominant Clemson and a solid slate of divisional competition, these squads might have had a shot at a high quality bowl game.

West Virginia also deserves a mention. The Mountaineers jumped five spots after their gutsy two-point conversion against Texas.

Biggest Losers

Uh, anyone who isn’t Alabama? LSU, Florida, and Penn State are the still-ranked teams that dropped the most, courtesy of a trio of smackdowns administered to them over the weekend. Florida did itself no favors, getting waxed by a 4-4 Missouri team, while Penn State was obliterated by a surging Michigan squad that has pushed its way into the CFP picture. LSU can be forgiven however: This Alabama team seems to be entirely made up of aliens. However, the biggest loser was...

On the Outside Looking In

...Utah! (My Cousin Vinny Judge Voice: “Uh...what is a ‘Ute’?”) The Utes fell from #16 right out of the rankings after getting disemboweled by Arizona State this weekend. They sit at #26, after receiving most votes of any unranked team.
