Tar Heels news 7/6/16: Elijah Hood makes Maxwell Award watch list

Star News | Brett Friedlander: Former Tar Heel Brice Johnson is impressing in the NBA Orlando Summer League. Johnson recorded a second straight game with 23 points, squaring off against former Duke rival Marshall Plumlee, who is trying to make the Knicks as an undrafted free agent.

The award is given out each year to the country's best player, similar to the Heisman Trophy. Hood is joined by 14 fellow ACC players.

Campus Sports | Caleb Bailey: Ty'Son Williams, who recently announced that he'd be transferring from UNC to South Carolina, said that he'd be using the GI Bill that his mother received for her military service in order to pay for his first year of schooling. Carolina put a restriction on Williams that prevents him from receiving a scholarship spot on a team they play for the next four years.
