UNC recruiting: Recapping the week of 10/23

Recruiting is underway

NCAA Basketball: ACC Media Day Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

It’s been an interesting week for four-star linebacker Dax Hollifield. The 2018 recruit reportedly named North Carolina as his leader but soon issued a statement declaring that no leader has been named yet. Regardless of what is and isn’t true, UNC remains among his top choices.

Things are going well with North Carolina’s recruitment of four-star running back Devon Lawrence. The 2018 recruit from Wake Forest has reportedly narrowed his choice to either UNC or UCLA. His recent visit to Chapel Hill went well, and he named the Tar Heels the team to beat. He will make his decision in November.

In non-player news, North Carolina has hired Angela Kirkpatrick as the new Director of On-Campus Recruiting for football. She comes to Chapel Hill by way of Tennessee.

UNC basketball missed out on a big recruit for the 2018 class when four-star power forward Darius Days chose to commit to LSU.

Zion Williamson will be on campus for UNC’s exhibition game this year. He’s been on campus three other times, but this will be his official visit to Chapel Hill. Ranked second overall in the 2018 class, this will be a big visit for the South Carolina native. He has already visited Kansas, Kentucky, and Duke.

UNC had a big visit over the weekend as five-star power forward Matthew Hurt came to Chapel Hill on Saturday. The 2019 recruit ranks fifth overall in his class and third at his position. He also visited Duke on Friday.
