The University of North Carolina has announced the official signing of four-star athlete CJ Cotman today. Cotman attracted attention from many of the biggest schools in the country before UNC was able to draw his attention.
He received offers from such schools as Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Michigan, Oregon, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and many more. ACC teams, including Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Pittsburgh, and Virginia Tech, were also in on him.
The Clearwater, Florida native received an official offer from North Carolina in February of 2016. He came to Chapel Hill in December for his official visit before announcing his commitment to the program in January.
Cotman is ranked as the no. 282 player in the 2017 class and the 39th-best in his home state. The national composite has him down as the 14th-best athlete of 2017 as well, however, his position has yet to be determined. At five-foot-eleven and 180 pounds, he doesn’t have much size, but he makes up for it with his pure athleticism and explosiveness on both sides of the ball. Most schools see him as a cornerback or as a slot receiver, though there is some belief that he could also be a formidable running back.
No matter where the Tar Heels decide to put him, he will be filling in for a recent graduate. Wide receivers Ryan Switzer, Mack Hollins, and Bug Howard, running backs Elijah Hood and T.J. Logan, and cornerback Des Lawrence are all graduating. Cotman will certainly have a role to play in the near future.
