The University of North Carolina has announced that athlete Kayne Roberts has signed his National Letter of Intent on National Signing Day. He was recruited by co-offensive coordinator Gunter Brewer.
A two-star talent, Roberts didn’t receive a lot of attention on the recruiting trail. He visited Duke in 2015, attended Junior Day at Tennessee, and received offers from Tennessee Tech, Army, and Coastal Carolina. Roberts visited Chapel Hill in November, committed in December, and took his official visit in January.
He is ranked as the no. 152 athlete in his class and the no. 60 player out of Tennessee. Despite not being too highly regarded and relatively unknown, the six-foot-three, 195-pound Roberts is considered to be a sleeper.
The Greenback, TN native is listed as a safety and could surprise people once he gets on campus. UNC just lost safety Dominquie Green to graduation and Donnie Miles will be a senior in 2017. If Roberts can hang in there and develop, he might have some playing time coming to him down the line.
