Strong-side defensive safety Jayson Oweh announced his list of top 10 schools on Twitter yesterday. He included North Carolina on the list, alongside Ohio State, Harvard, Virginia Tech, Vanderbilt, Penn State, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Georgia Tech, and Rutgers.
Many of these schools have only just offered him in the last few weeks, showing that there is a chance the 2018 recruit might want to make a decision sooner than later. According to the crystal ball at 247Sports, Oweh is predicted to ultimately choose Penn State, for whatever reason.
Though he is considered to be a safety, he is also listed as a tight end, possibly giving him some versatility at the next level. The six-foot-five, 236-pound athlete is reportedly a three-star talent and the no. 391 player in his recruiting class. Blairstown, New Jersey is the 10th-best player in his home state and ranks 14th at his position.
These are the schools I'll be focusing on. Thank you to all the schools that were and are recruiting me. #Top10 pic.twitter.com/CXABeAh51M

Scout.com says that Oweh, a one-time basketball prospect, has impressive amounts of athleticism, speed, and size to make for a strong defensive safety. However, he will need to work on his technique, adding more strength, and increasing quickness off the ball.
When it comes to North Carolina’s current roster, the team lacks depth at safety. After the loss of Dominquie Green to graduation, the team will only have Donnie Miles at the position in 2017. It’s hard to say who else will be able to fill in, but with Miles heading into his senior year, the team will have to deal with this problem all over again in 2018. Who knows who will be here when that time comes, but having Jayson Oweh on the roster would be a nice thing to have then.
