UNC football recruiting: CB Steven Gilmore names North Carolina in his final four schools

Could Gilmore be another cornerback for the Tar Heels?

North Carolina is getting more attention on the recruiting trail now that three-star cornerback Steven Gilmore has included UNC in his final four schools. The other top choices he included in his Twitter post on Wednesday afternoon were Louisville, South Carolina, and Georgia.

Gilmore also received offers from East Carolina, Duke, Kansas State, and Maryland before narrowing his selection to four schools. The five-foot-nine, 150-pound cornerback is ranked 91st overall among the class of 2018. He is also the 19th overall talent in the state of South Carolina.

It should be no surprise that the Gamecocks are currently the favorite to land him, given Gilmore’s residency in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He has already visited their campus twice, once in September and again in March. Meanwhile, the Tar Heels had him in camp last month, so UNC has recency bias on their side.

North Carolina has gone heavily into cornerbacks this past recruiting class. They lost Des Lawrence to graduation and will have M.J. Stewart for only one more season. Cornerbacks C.J. Cotman and Dazz Newsome will certainly have their chance to play regularly in the near future. Gilmore, meanwhile, could then be the next man up.
